Ōtepoti (Dunedin)

Genre: Theatrical art-rock

Ōtepoti based art-rock quintet, IVY, have quickly cemented themselves as one of Dunedin’s most exciting acts of the current millennium. A strong sense of maturation is present when referencing IVY; it is obvious that everyone who is in the know, holds the band in the highest of regards, a pillar of mystical and transcendent force, coupled with the exuberant weight of youthful eagerness.

IVY’s music nestles within the realm of dark and brooding tones, and immense, layered chorus - no stranger to composite time signatures and experimental instrumentation. Quotidian lyrical themes are metaphorically transcribed, taking on a life of their own under the jurisdiction of the singer’s heavenly vocal delivery. IVY pulls all of these elements together to evoke a strong sense of nostalgia and emotion, witnessed by concerts devoid of dry-eyes.

IVY have multiple Aotearoa festival slots under their belt, including Snow Machine, Southern Sounds, Burning Horse, and OUSA Ori, among others, and are in strong stride after completing their second headline tour of Aotearoa’s South Island in late-2024. Most notably, IVY recently played alongside the 26-piece Dunedin Youth Orchestra, performing a fully original set of IVY’s music - a magical performance that is sure to be cemented in the books of Dunedin’s highly-regarded musical history.

IVY’s releases throughout 2024 earned them the SRN’s 2024 People’s Choice Award. Currently sitting at an amassed 300,000 total streams, 5,000 social media followers, and roughly 10,000 ticket sales since their inception in 2022, IVY’s sharp growth is turning heads nationwide. With their debut album and accompanying nationwide tour on the horizon, coupled with a rapidly growing, devoted fanbase, IVY are the band everybody has their eyes on - the future is Art-Rock.
