Wiri Donna
Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington)
Genre: Gritty guitar pop
From soft sounds to full-throttle rock, Wiri Donna’s musical evolution is bold, visceral, and completely magnetic. Led by songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Bianca Bailey, the four-piece features Harrison Scholes (Arjuna Oakes, TOI), James MacEwan (Arjuna Oakes), and Elliott Dawson. Together, they’ve carved a live reputation for unrelenting energy and electric connection.
Wiri Donna burst onto the scene with "Being Alone" (2022), a debut EP co-produced by James Goldsmith and hailed by Rolling Stone as one of the fiercest feminist releases of the year. Tracks like 'Big Pop' and 'No Follow Through' topped the SRN Charts and earned the band a finalist spot for the Taite Music Prize: Best Independent Debut.
In 2024, Wiri Donna returned louder and more deliberate with their sophomore EP In My Chambers — a collection drenched in feminine rage, grungy basslines, and heavy guitars. Produced again by Goldsmith, the record dives deeper into raw emotion and sonic power, receiving praise for its sharpened edge and cathartic tone.
Wiri Donna have supported acts like Fontaines D.C., Skegss, Mild Orange, and The Beths, and lit up festivals from Rhythm & Vines to Twisted Frequency. Whether on record or on stage, Wiri Donna is a commanding force in the Aotearoa indie rock scene.
