Gareth has been with Lil Chief since it first started in 2002, initially as a volunteer but these days as a paid employee. In the first decade of the label, he also performed in The Tokey Tones, then internationally with The Brunettes and The Ruby Suns. He is also a music historian and has a new book out this year, Songs From The Shaky Isles: A Short History of Popular Music in New Zealand.
